Remembering the Promise of St. Joseph

On the eve of St. Joseph’s Day, we prepare not just for a celebration — but for a tradition rooted in faith, gratitude, and community.

March 19th honors St. Joseph, the patron saint of workers, fathers, and protector of families. In Italian culture, especially in Sicily, this day became a symbol of hope after a devastating famine. Through prayers to St. Joseph, the rains came, crops were saved, and a promise was made: to always share their blessings with others.

That promise lives on through the beautiful tradition of the St. Joseph’s Table — an altar filled with bread, pastries, flowers, and symbolic foods like fava beans, representing survival and gratitude.

But more than anything, it is a day of giving:
•Feeding the hungry
•Welcoming all to the table
•Sharing abundance with those in need

As we prepare our tables and hearts, we are reminded of what matters most — faith, family, and generosity.

Tomorrow, we celebrate. Tonight, we remember why.
